To test a clay bar, you can perform the following steps:
1. Wash your vehicle to ensure the surface is clean.
2. Feel the paint with the back of your hand to assess its smoothness.
3. Put your hand inside a clean plastic bag and feel the same spot on the paint. The bag creates a barrier to help you feel imperfections better.
4. Spray a liberal amount of Detail Spray on a two-foot by two-foot area to lubricate it.
5. Flatten a quarter of the clay bar and rub it back and forth on the lubricated surface. Initially, you may feel something grainy and hear a sandpaper-like sound.
6. Work the clay bar until it glides smoothly, effortlessly, and you feel zero abrasives.
7. If the side of the clay bar touching the paint changes color and gets dirty, it means it's working. Fold the clay bar over and continue.
8. Dry the area with a microfiber towel.
9. Perform the plastic bag test again to feel the difference after claying.
Remember not to reuse a clay bar if you drop it to avoid scratching the paint. Also, clay the glass and wheels of your vehicle.
